Fruit & Vegetable Wash
It is recommended to wash your produce before consuming because washing will help remove any unwanted germs or chemicals that may be on the produce. Whether others have handled the produce or pesticides added to grow and ripen the produce - you don’t want to consume any of this!
Here are the chemical free recipes for the homemade wash and spray that I use to wash away chemicals and germs from my fruit and vegetables, they only take minutes to make and it’s only a couple of ingredients.
Homemade Fruit and Veg Wash Spray
It is best to use this spray on hard-skinned fruit and vegetables e.g. eggplant, zucchini, cucumbers, carrots, grapes, apples, and/or oranges, etc.
Ingredients:
1.5 cups filtered water
¾ organic apple cider vinegar
10 drops of lemon essential oil or other citrus blend of your choice
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a 16 oz glass spray bottle, add the bottle cap with spray nozzle and gently shake mixture. Spray on produce as needed and let the wash sit for a few minutes. Rinse under cold water and wipe the produce dry with a clean cloth.
Homemade Fruit and Veg Wash Soak
If you want to wash off harmful chemicals off of thin-skinned produce then I find that a soak in the kitchen sink works best. This is for produce such as leafy greens, tomatoes, berries, etc
Ingredients:
Sink full of filtered water
1 cup Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
10 drops of lemon essential oil or other citrus blend of your choice
Directions:
Make sure that your sink is clean then fill it with water and add the remainder of the ingredients to it. Place the fruit and veg into the sink for a few minutes. Rinse produce and then wipe dry with a clean cloth.
Enjoy,
